“Gartman said Monday that he thought crude oil wouldn’t trade back above $44 “in my lifetime,” though he did say oil may have hit a short-term bottom.”

Um… I think I made only one “in my lifetime” statement (or at least that I can remember)… In 1984 while speaking to a meeting of mortgage bankers, with short term interest rates recently in double digits, I was asked if we would ever see rates back to 1950’s early 60’s levels… I said “not in my lifetime”… Here is what happened:
