Top performing markets… The Economist – Commodity Research Group

Each week, The Economist lists returns for major (and some not so major) equity markets around the world… I like to check in to compare the best performers to the headlines I’ve seen about the country… Number one performer is Brazil at +62.1% (ytd August 31st)… And the headline news? Impeachment, Zika, Petrobras, a contracting economy, Ryan Lochte…

Some oil producing countries’ stock markets have done well this year: Columbia, +28.8; Russia, +25.5; and, Canada, +19.1…

The rest of the over +20% club include Thailand, +25.2; Hungary, +22.5; and, Indonesia, 21.7…

The S&P is +6.2% as of August 31…
