US household spending for gasoline to remain below $2,000 in 2017… EIA

Correlation is not causation, but the chart below shows how household expenditures on energy (gasoline) seem to track the economy:

Monetary and fiscal policy get the most discussion when explaining GDP growth, but average household spending on gasoline looks like a pretty good indicator on how the economy is doing… The chart is from the EIA’s Today in Energy
